A new project we’ve been working on, one that’s been sitting at the back of our heads, waiting for the right people to push it along: a trail from Crofton beam engine to Wilton windmill.

This will take in the railway, the canal, Wilton Water, Wilton the village (and the pub) and a beautiful rural setting.

Back in summer it happened. Pete and I (Louisa) met the Scraptors, three artists who have colloborated to create sculptures from scrap.

So in the last couple of months we’ve been introducing them to the area (well two of them; one is already familiar and can remember Savernake railway station) with a view to creating a sculpture trail that would be inspired by the area. This began with a circular walk and Saturday we visited the beam engine as winter maintainance was taking place.

(I was busy getting over excited with the camera and so my more attentive eight year old Milo could tell you more than me about the beam engines and the work taking place.)

We’ve been talking to the Wilton Windmill Society and Kennet and Avon Canal Trust to see it’s feasible, because we need their support and involvement, and that of the landowners, to make it happen.
